Commitment to a Small Group is a radical step in a culture of mere attendance and casual involvement.
We love and value our Sunday morning gatherings here at Five Points! However, corporate worship doesn't provide the easiest venue for catching up with others or sharing what's on your heart with another brother or sister. That's where our small group ministry comes into play. Small groups are our way of creating space for the essential relational element of life together as God's people.
Scripture clearly teaches that God did not design the Christian life to be a solo endeavor (I Corinthians 12:14-20). For all of us to grow and flourish as disciples of Jesus, each of us must be faithfully encouraging, exhorting, teaching, and coming alongside one another - all of which could be summed by saying we need to be discipling each other (Hebrews 10:24-25; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 3:13; Titus 2:1-6; Galatians 6:2; II Corinthians 1:3-4)! In the midst of how individualistic and hectic life has become these days, committing to a small group provides vital space to take what we're learning from God's word and help each other apply and live it out in our daily lives (James 1:22-25; Psalm 1:1-2).
Small groups meet at various times and locations throughout the week. In keeping with the emphasis of the New Testament that every believer is gifted by God for the growth of the church (Ephesians 4:16), each group is intentionally made up of people from diverse backgrounds and stages of life to keep our belonging focused primarily on our identity and unity in Christ, rather than simply being based on mere commonalities (Galatians 3:28).
Before looking to join a small group, we would first encourage you to attend a membership class and consider joining us in covenant membership. For more information about small groups, please contact Pastor Mike.
