Our Infinitely Glorious God
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
who alone does wondrous things.
Blessed be his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory!
Amen and Amen!
Psalm 72.18-19
As spring has turned to summer, we Michiganders rejoice! I know I'm biased, but there's no where else in the world I'd rather be than in Michigan during the summer. But to enjoy these months, we have to earn it. We endure long months of winter to enjoy the wonderful Michigan summer. Many of us have endured more than just a longer than normal winter. We're faint-hearted, weary, discouraged, and it has nothing to do with the weather. Yes, the sunshine and being outside is nice, but soon enough this season will pass and the clouds will come. From where will true help and lasting strength come from? Isaiah 40.29 says, "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength." Joy and strength from the turn of a season is fleeting, but God strengthens those who trust in Him with a strength that not only upholds you, but is a source of strength that never runs dry! Even during those seasons where you feel every day is a battle, He gives sufficient grace and is always there to give strength in increasing measure. The God of the universe cares for His children!
So as we enjoy the good gift of a Michigan summer, with our neighbors finally coming outside again as we enjoy the parks and beaches together, may we do so, not just remarking on the wonderful weather, but also declaring the praise of the Lord our God who alone does wondrous things! His glory is on display in many ways during these summer months, as earth and sky declare His handiwork. May we have the grace to not miss one opportunity to not only revel in His grace and glory ourselves, but invite our neighbors and the nations to find all their hope and joy in our gloriously infinite God!
Soli Deo Gloria,
Pastor JJ
