What Do We Do?

Smart phones, smart watches, smart shoes (yes, smart shoes)—just a few of the ever increasing number of interconnected things automatically blasting GPS locations, pictures, and sensor readings out to the Internet. Where your child is, what your child is doing, and who your child is with, at any given moment, are available to anyone who has the desire and the skills. On top of that, studies show that this generation of children is willing to share information and engage through social media in a way that was unheard of just a generation ago.

As alarmed parents, we might be tempted to ditch the phones, the watches, the shoes, and the Internet. However, we then lose the wonderful benefits of staying in touch with our children—everything from knowing when baseball practice ended early (and they are waiting on the curb) to seeing on a map where they are stranded with a flat tire.

So, what are responsible parents to do, especially if they are not as tech-savvy as their children? How can they engage their children in a dialogue that addresses the dangers of an interconnected world while still embracing its benefits? Are there biblical principles that apply to this aspect of modern life?

This three-hour, hands-on seminar addresses all of these things. First, a biblical foundation will be laid for parenting in a digital world. Second, current technology and social media kids use will be explained. Third, specific measures parents can take to reduce risk will be demonstrated at hands-on stations around the room.

Join us as we strive to be faithful to raise our kids in a manner honoring to the Lord as we navigate the challenges and opportunities technology brings.

Please register using the below form as space is limited. Childcare will not be provided, and junior and senior high students are encouraged to attend with their parents. Bring your devices for the hands-on portion of the seminar.
